September 3rd, 2010

Santa Cruz, CA (PRWEB) September 23, 2008

Adventure Out, California’s leader in outdoor adventure, is now holding its Mountain Biking I Clinic at DeLaveaga Park in Santa Cruz. This course is geared towards people who want to learn the basics on their mountain bike — from bike maintenance, to proper riding technique, body position, and trail etiquette. On and off-bike instruction will ensure that all participants are hitting the trail safely and responsibly.

DeLaveaga is a City of Santa Cruz park offering miles of trails through the city’s greenbelt and a wide variety of terrain ranging from grass and Live Oak hillsides, to deep redwood forests. The new Mountain Biking program by Adventure Out marks the second collaboration with the City of Santa Cruz to offer high-quality, professional and legitimate outdoor guiding services on City controlled land.

Adventure Out CEO Cliff Hodges explains the importance of these guide-to-government relationships: “Several sectors of the outdoor guiding industry have been operating for decades now on public lands with little or no regulation. While this may have been convenient for many independent guides, it has led to a decrease in professionalism and safety standards. Adventure Out has been working with local, state, and federal governments for the past 5 years to clearly define permit standards for all commercial guide services and outdoor professionals in every location that we operate.”

To experience the difference of going outdoors with professional and certified instructors, and to learn more about the Beginner Mountain Biking Clinics in Santa Cruz, CA, visit Adventure Out on the web at http://www.adventureout.com/mountainBiking_l_Marin.html.

Pre-Configured Linux Terminal Servers from Symbio Technologies Debut

September 2nd, 2010

New Rochelle, NY (PRWEB) November 24, 2003

Symbio Technologies has added a complete line of pre-configured Linux terminal servers to their growing selection of Linux based thin-client products. Dubbed “The Symbiont Server Collection,” the servers are Intel based, come loaded with The Symbiont Management Suite, and are available in various sizes designed to support everything from small networks to large scale institutions. The Symbiont servers offer affordable, out-of-the-box networks that can be set up simply by answering several on-screen questions.

“Even with all of the excellent open source terminal server packages on the market today, it can still be a daunting task to install and administer a thin client network,” said Symbio Technologies’ founder Gideon Romm. “What makes our servers unique is the configuration utility we have added to them that allows the system to work right out of the box.”

“Simply plug any Symbiont server into a network switch, add your thin clients, and your network is ready to go,” continued co-founder Roger Del Russo. “There is no need to purchase, install, license, or manage software for any of your workstations.” Industry experts such as the Gartner Group estimate that a thin-client network can save thousands of dollars in total cost of ownership (TCO).

The Symbiont Server Collection is the latest in a number of products that Symbio Technologies is providing to the Linux thin-client community, all of which are available from their online store located at http://www.thesymbiont.com. The servers, combined with diskless workstations, offer users the power, reliability, and security of Linux-based systems at an affordable price.

The Symbiont Server Collection includes:

The Korora mini-towers and pedestals

The Humboldt 4U/Tower rackmounts

The Magellan 2U rackmounts

The Rockhopper 1U rackmounts

All of the servers come pre-configured with RedHat Linux, dozens of open source software titles, and Symbio Technologies’ unique management suite guaranteeing simple, out-of-the-box installation.

Carnivorous Plants (CPs) — A “Growing” Hobby

August 30th, 2010

(PRWEB) August 12, 2005

Carnivorous plants are plants that attract, capture and kill animal life forms. They must also digest and absorb what they kill. They also have many qualities that are possessed by other plants, such as the ability to carry out photosynthesis.

Many people are getting into the hobby of collected these exciting plants. There are a lot of different plants to choose from, such as the Venus flytrap, Cobra Lilies and the largest carnivorous plants – Nepenthes the tropical pitcher plant. There are many great places to purchase these plants to start your hobby. One such place is http://www.nathansjungle.com. They have a wide variety and some helpful information.

For those who are new to the hobby there are a few things that they should know. Many people make mistakes when starting out and often give up on the hobby altogether. If they would have only have a little information before starting out, it could have kept them in the hobby and reduced their frustration.

First off most carnivorous plants have the same needs. They need bright light, high humidity, and a proper mix of nutrient poor medium for growth. Traditional fertilizer or high nutrient soil that you purchase from garden stores is bad for these plants. They will grow better in a mix of about 60% peat moss and 40% pumice, or perlite.

Second, they need good water. They are very sensitive to chemicals in the water. Rain water is excellent for these plants. Also bottle water with no additives is great. If you must use tap water be sure to flush your plants from time to time to wash out harmful chemicals.

Third, there is never a need to fertilize your carnivorous plants. This will cause them unneeded stress. Experienced growers will use a little fertilizer at their own risk, but it is not recommended for beginners to use it at all.

Finally, know the particulars for the plant. Some species of carnivorous plants will enter a stage of dormancy. They may appear to be dead. They will stop growing and begin to brown. This is natural. They store energy deep inside, waiting for the following spring to resume growth. It is best to provide a period of 3-5 months for dormancy.

If proper care is taken for the plants it is a very rewarding hobby. Many of these plants have some dazzling floral displays. Hobbiests can create beautiful terrariums for their plants. It may take a few tries to get used to this hobby, but stick with it and it will be a lot of fun.

One more bit of advice. Make sure that wherever plants are purchased that they are NOT plants that were collected from the wild. Beginners will not be happy with them at all and most likely they will die.

New Book Brings God and Penguins Together

August 28th, 2010

Appleton, WI (PRWEB) October 22, 2004

When Wisconsin author Marty Love began writing his first book, he knew he couldn’t leave God out of it. “How can we forget God? He is the center of my life, and actually the center of all things whether we see Him or not,” he said. “We tend to ignore Him and act like He’s not there, but He’s the one who made all this incredible creation. We’re the ones who messed it up.”

His book, Fly Like a Penguin, tells the adventures of a Rockhopper penguin named Hopper who is trying to get to his home in the Falkland Islands. What should have been a short journey becomes a very long one because of a storm and some miscalculations on his part.

So what does God have to do with it? Hopper is shown as a young penguin who learns more and more about his Creator as he goes, and learns to hear his voice more clearly. He seems an unlikely and even reluctant hero throughout the story, even up to the exciting conclusion. At times he wonders why he is where he is, and why things aren’t going the way he thinks they should, but is reminded that even his mistakes are used in the master plan that is for his good.

Love calls the book a somewhat educational, humorous, adventure story for kids eight to 12 years old, and also for adults. He says there are some things in it only adults will get. “There are a lot of fun things hidden in it,” he said. “I’ve gotten a lot of positive feedback from people at church and others, too.”

When Love was a teenager growing up in Bremerton, WA, he saw a penguin float by on a log in front of his waterfront home on Puget Sound. After receiving his Bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Washington, he moved to Wisconsin. He got married and proceeded to have many children. During this time, he remembered the penguin and wondered, “How did he get there?” After much research and writing in his spare time, he emerged with the book that answers that question and many others as well.

Fly Like a Penguin is published by Authorhouse and is available online at flylikeapenguin.com and at most online bookstores. It can be ordered at any local bookstore or by calling the publisher at (888) 280-7715.

Attention Specialized Bike Riders: Beware of Product Liability Defects!

April 1st, 2010

Attention Specialized Bike Riders: Beware of Product Liability Defects!

If you are riding a Specialized bike, chances are you are an experienced rider, and you paid lots and lots of money for your bike. The last thing you need is to get tossed when the bike fails you! You need to be aware of the recalls Specialized Bikes has made on some of their handlebars and cable-stops before you harm yourself. If you have already been hurt due to one of these product defects, you need to talk to an attorney that can thoroughly tell you about your rights and claims.

The first Specialized recall relates to breaking handlebars.  This recall involves HL handlebars on the following 2009 Specialized bicycles: Cross Trail Comp, Myka HT Comp, Myka HT Elite, Rockhopper, Rockhopper Comp and Rockhopper Comp 29. The model number of the HL handlebar is ALR-13 NTFOV and is located underneath the right hand grip of the handlebar. One rider had the handlebars break, causing a crash and head trauma.

Specialized Bikes did another recall in 2004 because of loosening cable stops. The following Specialized Bikes all fall under the recall: 2004 Roubaix Comp 18, 2004 Roubaix Comp 27, 2004 Roubaix Pro 18, and 2004 Roubaix Pro frame set models. The recall is only for bicycles having a single rivet fastening the cable stop, and not for those having a double rivet. These recalled bikes attach their cable stop using bonding materials and a single rivet at the front of the bicycle. The Specialized Bikes model names listed can be found on the top tube of the bicycles. Take this recall seriously, another rider had the cable stop loosen and he lost control, crashed, and ended up with serious fractures and getting surgery.

If you currently own or ride any Specialized Bike model listed, stop immediately. You should contact your bike dealer and have the parts replaced before you ride again. Do not worry about the cost, Specialized Bikes will pay the bills! Any unfortunate person who has suffered injury from these defected parts, there is hope for you. Contact a product liability attorney who will be able to make you aware of your rights and claims.

Nate Bjerke in the past defended giant manufacturing companies and is experienced in handling product liability cases. Now he fights on your side, against the same type of people he worked for. If you have recently been harmed and Specialized Bikes is at fault, learn what a personal injury lawyer can do for you.

Mountain Biking Accessories

March 30th, 2010

Mountain Biking Accessories

When you first start out with mountain biking, it can be a bit overwhelming when you walk into a bike store to buy your first mountain bike and see all of the available accessories you’ll need when you first start riding.

There are several mountain biking accessories and related products that you can purchase. Although the sales staff will try to sell you anything they can, the real question for those on a budget isn’t what’s cool, but what accessories you need to make your rides more safe and enjoyable. By starting with these accessories, you’ll be just fine when you hit the trails.

Bike helmet
The bike helmet is the most important mountain biking accessory that you can buy. No one should ever be on a bike without a helmet. There have been many people who have experienced serious head injury, when it could have prevented by wearing a helmet. All mountain bike helmets are comfortable and stylish and everyone who rides on the trails wears one.

Mountain bike gloves
No matter what season you ride in, your hands can take a beating. Beginners will normally keep a death grip on the handle bars, which can be very brutal for their hands. When you crash, your hands will be the first thing to hit the ground – and everyone crashes at some point. Mountain bike gloves are a must have accessory, as they will take the beating for you.

Mountain bike shorts
After the first few mountain bike rides you take, you’ll notice that your rear end will be quite uncomfortable. Even though your body will adjust, bike shorts are great to have as they will help keep it at a bare minimum. You can get shorts that are very comfortable, making them a great addition to your mountain bike ride.

Mountain bike shoes
Depending on the type of pedals you have and the type of riding you do, you’ll want to pick your mountain bike shoes accordingly. If your bike has clipless type pedals, you’ll want to get shoes to accept the special cleat for your pedals. Good mountain bike shoes are durable, comfortable, and also a stiff sole for better efficiency when pedaling. Also, you should make sure to get the right shoe for the terrain you’ll be riding in as well.

Eye protection
If you get something in your eye, you can run off the trail in a matter of seconds. Sunglasses or clear lensed glasses can help keep your eyes safe from debris, as well as protect them from the wind. When you buy your glasses, make sure they are non-breakable.

Hydration system
Bringing a water bottle or hydration backpack with you is always a great idea. It’s very easy to get dehydrated so you should always bring water with you and drink it on the trail to ensure that your body stays properly hydrated at all times.

Trail repair kit
It’s easy to get stuck in the woods or on the trail if you don’t bring the proper repair kit for your bike. To be on the safe side, bring a multi-tool designed for bike repair, tire levers, and a patch kit for fixing flat tires.
